Homework in First Grade

For our first graders, reading skills are a top priority, and homework assignments will reflect that focus.  District guidelines dictate that for students in grades K-2  there will be an average of 15-30 minutes per night.  No homework will be assigned on weekends.  All homework assigned should be practice of a skill already mastered by students.
Homework Expenctancies

General guidelines for homework this year in Room 16.

There will be 3 parts of reading homework that the students should do each night in order to be successful in first grade: phonics, Book in a Bag, and word clubs.

3 Parts of Daily Reading
Sharing Schedule

Students will have weekly sharing that they will participate in.  This activity will comprise a large portion of the listening and speaking grade for each student.

Each Friday afternoon students who have earned “Clubs” will have the
privilege of choosing a “Club.” Clubs will include special “fun” PE
activities. Students who do not turn in homework or class work on
time or who are struggling with behavior (turned color card to red or twice to yellow) will go to Study Hall where they will finish work or complete a given
assignment.
